Who are Chambers and Partners?
Chambers and Partners is a world-renowned legal directory which has been producing guides since 1990. The first edition was focused purely on UK-based law firms and lawyers; there are now guides covering jurisdictions around the globe from Asia to Europe, the USA, and Latin America! The aim of the yearly guides is to provide reliable, up-to-date recommendations for those seeking legal services.
How do Chambers and Partners determine the UK rankings?
Chambers undertakes independent analysis of the marketplace, individuals, and organisations, conducting in-depth research over a six-month period to identify the best law firms and lawyers in the UK. The UK guide is split into different practice areas e.g., crime, commercial and corporate litigation, intellectual property and family/matrimonial. The guide is further sub-divided into geographical zones.
Law firms and individual lawyers are ranked on a scale, with one being the highest and six the lowest. Being ranked at all is a huge achievement – not all applicants are included in the guide! Individual lawyers are ranked according to their legal knowledge and experience, ability, effectiveness, and quality of client service.
How important is client feedback?
Client feedback is the most important factor in the ranking decision. When firms or individual lawyers submit their applications, they are required to present a list of referees. Referees are usually clients, but the list can also include other legal professionals who have had contact with the firm over the past 12 months.
A team of dedicated Chambers researchers then interview the referees to inform their decisions. Interviewees remain anonymous: names are never attached to quotes published in the Chambers and Partners guides. Clients can comment on a range of factors including: the quality of service they have received; the lawyer’s level of technical knowledge; the lawyer’s attention to detail and standard of professional conduct; value for money; organisation and innovation. Additionally, the quality of the submission provided by the firm or lawyer and any testimonies given by peers are also taken into consideration by the Chambers team.
Can clients offer to be referees for a Chambers and Partners application?
Absolutely! If you are an existing client of Linda Lamb or Tanya Foster and would like to act as a referee for their 2023 Chambers applications, we would be delighted to hear from you! Please contact Helen Childers via email: helen@lslfamilylaw.co.uk
